Life is a typographic sculpture by Joonho Kwon about female North Korean refugees, there are 4 pages pages of text and the crank turns the type to reveal the next page, each numbered 1-4. The type itself is laser cut wood pale wood stuck onto darker wooden blocks, in a traditional wood type style.
I saw this at the RCA degree show, in the Communication Art & Design MA exhibition, it was easily one of my favorite things from the course. A good example of where Art with a proper meaning and an issue to raise, can combine with Design styles and methods. Plus it looked really damn cool and the mechanical aspect of it worked really well. Also Joonho came to say hello while I was looking, which is always nice! Have a look at his site for more pics and a video here.
