So I’ve recently moved to London. And the much awaited olympics begin tomorrow. Chances to talk about that logo will soon run out…
Im going to keep my thoughts on it brief, I still am not sure about it. But I’m glad that it’s not safe and boring. British design is generally very forward thinking and good for Wolff Olins for having the guts to do it. It will definitely be remembered thats for sure, and perhaps even fondly if future olympic logos play it safe. Brings to mind these quotes;
“The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about” - Oscar Wilde
“When you make something no one hates no one loves it” - Tibor Kalman
Here are some good things to read on the subject if you aren’t sick of the olympics and it’s logo by now;
- Remember The Games, Forget the Identity - Greg Quinton
- London 2012 identity: design genius or doomed from birth? - The Guardian
- Despite Changes, There’s Little to Love in 2012 Olympics Logo - Alice Rawsthorn
